Directions to Echo Lake Camp
Directions to Echo Lake Camp
From the North or South:
Maine is redesigning its exit numbering system
The old route 495 is gone, and is now just called 95 all the way from the NH/ME border to
Augusta. Plus, the exit numbers are no longer ordinal, but rather based on mileage. For
details, please read Maine's PDF brochure:
http://www.maineturnpike.com/pdfs/redesignation_brochure.pdf.
Take the Maine Turnpike (aka Rte. 95) to exit 52. This is just North of Portland,
and is called the Falmouth Spur. That spur will put you onto 295 North. 295 will merge
back with 95 North near Augusta.
At Augusta, two options:
- Leave highway, taking Rte. 3 to Belfast, Searsport, Bucksport, Ellsworth
- This can be slower, but it is a break from highway
- Follow directions below from Ellsworth
- Stay on highway to Bangor
- Take Rte 395 (beltway around Bangor) to Rte 1-A South to Ellsworth
Stay straight through Ellsworth: past McDonalds, Walmart etc. to Route 3:
Stay on Rte 3 south to Mt. Desert Island. After crossing the causeway
onto Mt. Desert Island take Route 102 south towards Southwest Harbor.
Do not stay on Rte. 3 to Bar Harbor
After 8 1/2 miles you will come to Somesville (quaint village).
Stay straight on Route 102. The entrance to camp is approximately three
miles south of Somesville, at the southern end of Echo Lake. Watch for
the wooden AMC sign on the right (a sharp right turn down a long driveway).
It is one quarter mile past the Acadia Mt. Parking Lot.
